Whole Foods, Hydration, Supplementation
NUTRITION is the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle which is why we made it the base of our Recomp Life PyramidTM. Whether your goal is fat loss, strength, toning, energy, disease and ailment prevention, and/or overall health, good, solid NUTRITION is truly 90% of the equation.
NUTRITION, as part of the Recomp Life PyramidTM, is broken into three distinct elements; Whole Foods, Hydration, and Supplementation. At Recomp Fitness and NutritionTM, we believe that Whole Foods and adequate Hydration should be the primary source of your daily NUTRITION. However, with the modern food industry finding new and cheaper ways to grow foods quicker and larger to increase their profits and the shelf life off foods, including fruits and vegetables, the concentration and amount of nutrients in Whole Foods is no where near what it was a century ago. Therefore even the healthiest of us need various degrees of supplementation to ensure all essential vitamins and minerals are provided to your body; especially when training for muscle growth and/or fat loss.

Resistance, Cardio, HIIT
EXERCISE is vital to a healthy lifestyle. It has been proven in study after study that regular EXERCISE has the following benefits:

It has been scientifically proven that regular EXERCISE can help prevent, treat, or even cure more than 40 of the most common chronic health conditions encountered by doctors. EXERCISE is also vital to achieving your fitness goals; whether fat loss, toning, endurance, strength, or muscle hypertrophy. The amount and types of EXERCISE you perform, and how it is incorporated into a balanced fitness and nutrition program, plays a significant role in achieving your specific fitness goals.
The second tier in the Recomp Life PyramidTM, EXERCISE, is broken into three main elements; Resistance, Cardio, and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Resistance training is the backbone of the EXERCISE element, with varying levels of cardio and HIIT incorporated in depending on if your goals are fat loss, improved endurance, or increased strength and hypertrophy.
Although EXERCISE and NUTRITION are the primary tiers of the Recomp Life PyramidTM, they are only truly balanced with proper REBUILD and FOCUS.
Sleep and Recovery
REBUILD is as important as solid, consistent EXERCISE and good NUTRITION. We placed it in a lower tier solely because without EXERCISE, REBUILD is not as critical a factor in improving the quality of your life. However, elements of it, like sleep remain very critical. REBUILD, as part of the Recomp Life PyramidTM, is broken into two main elements; sleep and recovery.
Proper sleep is critical to reset your mental FOCUS, repair damages done to your body from pollutants, sun, stress, and exercise, and has been shown to reduce the risk of many diseases and cancers. Sleep is also vitally important in meeting your fitness goals. During sleep hormones like testosterone and human growth hormone (HGH) are naturally released repairing and building muscle stimulated from the EXERCISE done previously. Muscle repair, which must occur prior to building stronger and bigger muscles, cannot occur optimally without proper sleep. Additionally, lack of sleep has been shown to increase cravings of sugary and high carbohydrate foods making sticking to your NUTRITION plan more difficult.
So how much sleep do you need? Recent studies on sleep have shown that 7 hours a night seems to be the optimal amount for most people. Those who slept less or more than 7 hours a night showed mental decline in cognitive tests. Those who slept less than 5 hours or more than 9 hours showed greater trouble remembering and solving problems than those who slept 7 hours. People who sleep 5 to 6 hours a night are 20% more likely to be overweight and 57% more likely to be obese. The same goes to for those who sleep more than 8 hours.
So shoot for 7 hours a night, especially when your are placing additional stresses on your body during fat loss and muscle building activities.
Recovery refers to the days in between your training. These recovery periods are critical to ensure you do not over train causing further stresses in your body and making it difficult for your body to remain in an anabolic state, or a state which promotes muscle growth. Additionally, over training and lack of sleep create conditions in your body which promote fat storage.
The proper amounts of sleep and recovery between training sessions are very important, and Recomp will help you find the optimal amount of each based on your specific goals and circumstances.
Mind and Meditation
FOCUS is the final tier in the Recomp Life PyramidTM which enhances your fitness path by keeping you motivated, increases the mind-muscle connection, and aids in de-stressing you mentally from the days activities. FOCUS is broken into two main elements; mind and meditation.
Mind refers to the narrowing down of your thoughts and images into what you are about to do; whether it be perform a set of bench presses or run 10 miles. It has been shown in studies, and my personal experience, that strict mental focus on what you are about to do prepares the mind and the body for the journey ahead and strengthens and speeds the mind-body connection. Just by focusing and seeing yourself pressing a heavy set of dumbbells in the air will give you more strength to do so simply from the power of the mind-muscle connection.
Meditation is the act of clearing the mind and focusing on your breathing and not your surroundings, what happened in the day, or what tasks you have ahead. Proper meditation and breathing lowers your stress and blood pressure and clears your mind of the clutter that has built up, preparing you to tackle that next task ahead; whether it is resistance training, cardio, or a presentation at work.
